How to Create a Personal Learning Plan Video

Video Transcript

Create your own personal learning plan using these four steps.

How engaging is your organization's learning culture?

Does it inspire you to grow your skill set? Or leave you feeling demotivated and bored?

In either case, you can take control of your career by creating your own Personal Learning Plan, using these four steps:

1. Have a "Growth" Mindset. People with a growth mindset believe that success comes through attitude, effort and learning.

So, take some time to reflect on the skills you have, as well as those you need to develop. Ask yourself, honestly, "What could I be doing better?", "What skills do my teammates and customers need from me?", "What do I want to learn?".

2. Design Your Personal Learning Plan. Think carefully about what resources will best help you to achieve your goals. Mind Tools videos are a great place to start!

Ensure that your plan is SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time bound.

Review your progress often to make sure that your objectives are still relevant, and that you're on track to achieve them.

3. Make Connections. Be proactive. Make the most of professional learning opportunities like online training courses or evening classes. Connect with other industry insiders by joining social forums or networks, and get involved in employee resource groups in your organization.

4. Overcome Barriers. Finding the time for self-development can be hard. Build time for learning into your weekly schedule, even if it's just an hour.

Regularly self-reflect on your progress, to appreciate how far you've come and motivate yourself to finish your journey. You can do it!
